Still Alive!

I’m still out there, playing Magic from time to time. The new MTGO client is almost unbearable. I have a difficult enough time playing let alone streaming or posting a draft, etc, etc.  Also I don’t get to play as much as I used to, only about once or twice a week now, so I don’t really have much to talk about.

M15 drafts have been fun. I tend to take drafts as they come, so I don’t have a pick order or anything.  Every time I have had a Triplicate Spirits, though, I have done very well. Also, blue is an abomination and should be avoided. Green can be fun, but that depends so much on what you pair it with (I prefer red or white, unless you’re talking GB Graveyard, which is also fun).

Stay frosty.

Why I Uninstalled Magic Online

Okay. Let’s start from the beginning.  I just uninstalled Magic Online.
version 3, that is.  It’s time to install and try the new version that becomes the ONLY version next week… You know, version “4” (actually 3.4.82.420). Let’s take the plunge. Ugh.

Specs are okay, my graphics card could probably use an upgrade, but other than that I’ve got more than double the juice to handle this thing!

Start time: 9:30 pm EST

Step 1: Open Google Chrome.

Step 2: Electric Boogaloo.

(you know you like it)

Step 2 (for real): type in “mtgo.com”

Step 3: scroll down a little, download button is offscreen

Step 4: Click “download”

Step 5: Click “download now”

Step 6: run the setup.exe file

Step 7: Get past any security warnings (I had 2) and click “install”

Download of 97.1 MB is going pretty quick, takes only a couple of minutes.

Step 8: Read EULA & Software License… Hahaha! Yeah, right! Click “Accept”

Step 9: type in Username and password, click “Log in”

Step 10: loading Magic Online Files… Please be patient…

This only takes about 1 minute, which is far shorter than I expected.

Okay, so here is the screen I see after I’m logged in.

I like Garruk, so that’s cool… Announcements, okay, I like that… “Featured tournaments”?  Hmm… Seems like a good idea if I was looking to jump into a daily or something.  Half of the space on the screen taken up by my contacts list… hmm… Not so sure I like that. I mean… do I really need my buddies to take up so much space?  I sure don’t.

I attempt to resize the Contacts section… foolish mortal! Of course, it cannot be resized.  Hrmm….

Time: 9:40 pm EST

So the installation went very quickly, 10 minutes from start to finish. GOOD JOB ON THAT ONE WOTC!!!!! I am very pleased at that part.  The fact that I can’t shrink or get rid of my buddies list? I see how it is… WotC wants you to download and log in to MTGO, just not actually have a good time once you’re in. We shall see…
